So Sunday, Lyndsey and I were having a lazy day. And I mean really lazy day. It was a super cold and blustery day outside. What better reason to stay inside in our jammies, not shower, not apply make-up or do our hair, and go bra-less, right? Now that I think of it, the only personal-hygiene we even took time for that morning was brushing our teeth (I think).
Anyway, we decided to spend the day having a CSI: Miami marathon.We are obsessed with CSI and were heartbroken when the Miami version ended last year, so we bought the entire DVD collection. We were up to the very last two disks of the last season, and figured we would spend a few hours vegging out with Horatio and the gang. So we settled in for the day.
Three hours later, with a couple of episodes to go, I had a sudden craving.
"I want a Frosty," I said.
My daughter's eyes lit up. "Oooh...me, too!"
Who cares that we'd just had one the night before? In fact, that's probably what brought on the craving for another one in the first place.
I looked outside at the swirling snow. Going out in the cold was the last thing I felt like doing. But the pull of a chocolate Frosty can be pretty strong. "Should we do it?" I asked.
"Oh, I have to go, too?" Lyndsey whined.
"Well, there's no way I'm going to go out looking like this all by myself."
She let out a sigh..."Okay. But let me put on a bra first."
"Why?" I asked. "That's what coats are for."
She did exchange her thin lip-stick-print pajama pants for a pair of sweats. And I did take a moment to look at myself in the mirror before we left. Not a good idea. My matted-down hair and pale face was almost enough to make me rethink this ridiculous idea. Who goes out for a Frosty in sub-zero degree, snow-advisory weather? Particularly looking like I hadn't showered all day.
Oh, yeah. I hadn't.
So Lyndsey and I set out, praying the whole way that we wouldn't skid off into a snowbank and have to get out of the car, exposing our non-beautified selves to concerned passersby.
Not before we had our Frosties, anyway.
As we pulled into the Wendy's parking lot, Lyndsey said, "I sure hope there's not a hot guy working the drive-thru."
"We could go in instead," I suggested.
We both laughed hysterically at my sarcasm.
We ordered our Frosties, sighed with relief when a girl we didn't know handed them to us through the window, and made it home without incident.
Then again, the whole twenty minute event was a memorable incident in and of itself.
